15.4. Useful winter tips

If you established a radiator heater, do not forget about it when you started slipping, outside sudden thaw (recently it happens quite often) or in general came spring — otherwise it is possible to overheat the engine even at the serviceable electric fan of the cooling system.
Surely you carry with yourself a shovel. The special snow-removing or sovok shovel best of all is suitable for fight against deep snow (if it can meet on your way). The usual spade with the shank shortened for compactness is suitable for firmer packed or thawed snow and digging out of the car which was starting slipping in a track. On trips around forest roads it is desirable to have also a hatchet to cut boughs and to enclose under wheels, and sometimes to make fire.
If it is regularly necessary to overcome slippery rises, it is useful to carry in a luggage carrier a package (a small bag) of coarse sand, a brick crumb or something similar. Often happens to throw enough under each wheel on couple of shovels of this mix to move a little and overcome steep icy slope or not to slip from a way, having damaged a body.
