3.11.1. Check of electric equipment

1. Check whether the belt of the drive of the generator and pump of the hydraulic booster of steering is torn off. If there was a break, replace a belt and adjust its tension (see. "Replacement of a belt of the drive of the generator and pump of the hydraulic booster of steering").

2. If the belt is whole, check and if necessary adjust its tension (see. "Check and adjustment of a tension of a belt of the drive of the generator and pump of the hydraulic booster of steering").

GOOD ADVICE For express check of a tension of a belt use the rule of "thumb", pressing on a belt branch a thumb and defining a deflection by a ruler. According to this universal rule if distance between centers of pulleys of 180-280 mm, the deflection has to be about 6 mm, and if distance of 300-400 mm, then the deflection has to make 13 mm.

3. If after a belt tension the alarm lamp all the same burns, check the wires connected to "plus" …	4. … and "mass" to plugs of the rechargeable battery …

5. … to a starter …	6. … and to the generator. Wires can be torn off, broken off in isolation or with the oxidized or unreliable contacts. Eliminate malfunction and launch the engine. If there was charging current, it is possible to continue the movement.

If after the taken measures the lamp of the category of the rechargeable battery continues to burn at the working engine, then the possible cause of defect is covered in the generator. The reasons can be a little, it is better to eliminate them in the conditions of car service or a garage, and you need to hope that there will be enough energy stock in the rechargeable battery that to reach them.

GOOD ADVICE To reduce consumption of current at the movement of the car with the faulty generator, whenever possible switch-off the radio tape recorder, excess devices of lighting, the heater fan, heating of back glass, etc.
