8.4.4. Replacement of the steering mechanism

The steering mechanism is removed for repair or replacement, and also for replacement of the damaged protective cover. However consider that the steering mechanism is a major element of safety of the movement. Low-quality repair of the mechanism can lead to serious consequences therefore if necessary repair it only in a specialized workshop or replace new.
    
NOTE
It is possible to remove the steering mechanism for replacement as assembled with steering drafts (выпрессовав fingers of tips of drafts from rotary levers of telescopic racks), and without them.
Work is shown with a detachment of steering drafts from the mechanism.

It will be required to you: keys "on 12", "on 16", a face head "on 12".
1. Install the car on a viewing ditch and slow down the parking brake.
2. Establish a steering wheel in provision of the rectilinear movement of the car.
3. Weaken an inhaling of bolts of fastening of the left forward wheel.
4. Also establish to Poddomkratta on support a forward part of the car.
5. In interior of the car under the dashboard turn out a bolt of klemmovy connection of a flange of the coupling with a shaft of a shaft gear wheel of the steering mechanism.
6. Remove a lock plate, turn out two bolts of fastening of steering thirsts for a lath of the steering mechanism (see. "Replacement of steering draft") …

    
GOOD ADVICE
Screw (without tightening) one of bolts back in a lath that the directing level was not displaced concerning a lath.

7. … remove a basic plate and two washers.
8. Turn off two nuts of fastening of hydraulic pipelines (bigger diameter) to the case of the distributor of the steering mechanism and take pipelines aside (only on the cars equipped with the hydraulic amplifier of steering).

PREVENTION
Take the measures preventing an effluence of working liquid from pipelines, having muffled them, for example, wooden traffic jams.

9. Turn out a bolt of the top fastening of a bracket and a nut of lower.
10. Similarly turn out a bolt and turn off a nut of fastening of the second bracket of the steering mechanism.
    
PREVENTION
Самоконтрящиеся nuts are not intended for reuse, at assembly replace them new.

11. Shift the steering mechanism towards the engine, remove from it a rubber sealant …
12. … also remove the steering mechanism from the car, having taken out it through an aperture in a niche of the left wheel.
13. Remove fastening brackets...
14. … and rubber support.
15. Turn off two nuts of fastening of tubes.
16. Bokorezami have a bite a collar of fastening of the protection cover, remove a collar (at assembly replace a collar new)...
17. … and rubber plug. Similarly remove a collar and the plug on the opposite end of a casing …
18. … also remove the protection cover.

19. Establish details and the steering mechanism as it should be, the return to removal. At installation of the steering mechanism pay attention to that the lath was on average (neutral) situation, the size A (fig. 8.4) between an axis of symmetry of heads of steering drafts and deepening of a seat of the left rubber support made 325 mm, and the provision of a steering wheel corresponded to the rectilinear movement. At the same time the coupling bolt of 2 (fig. 8.5) of klemmovy connection of a flange of the coupling with a shaft of a shaft of a steering wheel has to be in horizontal position over a steering shaft.

20. Remove air from system of the hydraulic booster of cm "Pumping of system of the hydraulic booster of steering"
21. Check and if necessary adjust the angles of installation of forward wheels (see. "Check and adjustment of angles of installation of wheels").
