9.10.1. Removal and installation of the brake drum

The brake drum is removed for its replacement at damage or wear of a working surface (the most admissible diameter of a drum of 201,0 mm), and also for control of a condition of brake mechanisms, by replacements of brake shoes and working cylinders.

    

NOTE The brake drum is executed for a single whole with a back nave.

    

GOOD ADVICE Perform work on the car with the hung-out back wheels (on the elevator or the car installed by means of a jack on support). The lever of the parking brake has to be lowered against the stop down (the car is stirred up).

It will be required to you: a key for bolts of wheels, a face head "on 24", a thin chisel, the hammer, a caliper, two assembly shovels.

1. Include the I transfer and establish persistent whetstones under forward wheels.

2. Take off a decorative cap of a back wheel (see. "Replacement of a wheel").

3. You will hang out a back wheel and establish on a support a back part of the car from the removed drum. Remove a back wheel (see. "Replacement of a wheel").

4. By means of a thin chisel and the hammer accurately to a vypressuyta a protective cap from a nave …	5. … also remove it.

6. The screw-driver unbend the unbent forelock pad, straighten it …	7. … also take the forelock from a pin opening.

8. Weaken an inhaling of a nut of a back nave …	9. … also turn off a nut.

10. Remove a persistent washer from a pin …	11. … internal ring of the external bearing …

12. … also remove the brake drum together with the internal hug bearing and an epiploon.	13. Measure by a caliper diameter of a working surface. If it exceeds the most admissible, the drum is subject to replacement.

14. Examine the working surface of the reel. It has to be equal and smooth, without ring risok and obviously visible ovality (ovality has to be no more than 0,5 mm, it can be determined by unevenly worn-out working surface of the reel). If ring risks very deep or uneven wear of a working surface is well visible, the drum should be replaced new.

PREVENTION Replace brake drums with couples (left and right at the same time).

    

GOOD ADVICE Examine a surface of overlays of brake shoes. If on them lubricant traces are found, so the epiploon of a nave is damaged and it needs to be replaced (see. "Replacement of the bearing of a back nave"). If slips are moistened with brake fluid, so consolidations of the working cylinder are untight, replace it (see. "Replacement of the working cylinder of the brake mechanism of a back wheel").

15. Check ease and noiselessness of rotation of hug bearings. If necessary replace bearings (see. "Replacement of bearings of a back nave").

16. Similarly remove and check the right brake drum.

17. At installation of the former reel remove a file the fillet on the working surface of the reel formed as a result of wear.

18. Bring to an initial state the regulator of gaps (see the item 20 "Replacement of Brake Shoes of the Brake Mechanism of a Back Wheel").

19. Reduce brake shoes two assembly shovels.

20. Install the reel as it should be, the return to removal. Adjust bearings of a back nave (see. "Adjustment of bearings of a back nave").

21. Adjust a gap between brake shoes and a drum, having pressed 10–15 times a brake pedal. By each pressing the click of the regulator has to be heard. As soon as clicks stop, the gap is established.

22. Press a protective cap in a nave.

23. Establish a wheel and a decorative cap (see. "Replacement of a wheel").

24. Check ease of rotation of a wheel. The easy zadevaniye of a drum about blocks is allowed.
